God of compassion; in love you sent your only son to die for us on the cross that our sins may be forgiven and be reconciled to you. During this season of Pentecost we ask you mercifully to pour your spirit again on your church so that it is strengthened for the mission ahead. May we know the power of your presence to bind together and to heal all those in need in our world. God of truth and justice, as we commemorate a hundred years from the break of World War 1, we hold before you those men and women who have died in active service in all the wars of the last 100+ years. As we honour their courage and cherish their memory, may we put our faith in your future; a future: Where nations will beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; where nations will not raise swords against nations n neither learn warfare anymore. Lead us heavenly Father to work for the welfare and protection of all your people for you are the source of life and hope, now and forever. Amen.
